Foundational Music Classes incorporating Kindermusik
|
![]() |
Our Sessions for 5 – 8 year olds focus on foundational music skills. We teach the rudiments of music theory in fun games. Starting with the musical alphabet and exploring the piano keyboard, the children will learn to read musical notation. They will soon be able to read and clap complicated rhythms. Singing is developed through Kodaly singing games and teaching sol-fa hand signs.
These sessions are perfect for those considering or already taking individual instrumental lessons. Music theory need never be dull again.
In each course we explore a different aspect of music culture.
What you’ll experience in class:
- Singing and vocal development - encouraged through games and songs with movement. Learning to doh re mi may seem like the stuff of musicals but this will help with a concept of pitch and help your child learn to read music.
- Movement - You’ll see your child dance expressively to music, giving him the practice he needs to coordinate his body movements to the sound of music. This kind of musical play not only improves musicianship, but his physical coordination as well.
- Reading and writing - He’ll learn melodic notation and identify pitches such as the C, A, and D notes on the treble clef, plus rhythmic notation.
- Focused listening - your child will learn to identify different instruments and styles of music. Each course focuses on one aspect of music or a musical tradition.
- Exploring and playing musical instruments - a wide variety of percussion instruments are used in each course as well as an introduction to the piano keyboard
