Nurseries & Playgroups
Nurseries & Play Groups
Musikate is happy to host both occasional and regular sessions in the Early Years setting. In addition to this we can provide staff training and support. We can also provide the resources to help you deliver music yourselves with instrument, props and our own curricula. Please contact us for additional information about this.
Musikate offer two options for Nurseries and Playgroups:
ABC Music & Me
ABC Music & Me is a research-based language and early literacy program built around music. Created by Kindermusik International a company with over 30 years of experience in creating pre-school music curricula. ABC Music & Me develops essential listening and early literacy skills so your students have the skills they need to succeed in school. ABC Music & Me is especially effective for children with developmental delays and at-risk learners.
A typical Nursery based course of ABC lasts 6 weeks long.
Through songs and music, ABC Music & Me:
-
enhances students’ listening and speaking skills
-
helps students develop pre-reading and writing skills
-
involves parents in their child’s learning
-
Build listening and early literacy skills in a way that is playful, active, and proven effective with young children!
Parental Involvement
For each course of ABC Music & Me completed, families receive an At Home Kit. We have seen significant value in these kits. They provide an important link for the parents with what the child is doing in class. The children become rapidly familiar with the songs and stories and the repetition aids learning enormously. The kits include instruments, CDs and a magazine with the stories used in class.
Most Nurseries who host ABC Music & Me, ask parents to contribute towards the sessions.
Musikate Curriculum
For nurseries who wish to fund classes themselves, we have also developed our own curriculum. These sessions include, singing, simple movement activities, instrument exploration, use of props such as balls and scarves and a musical story time.
We concentrate on establishing a sense of steady beat, a concept essential for coordination and learning. We explore concepts such as high and low, fast and slow, long and short. We use a range of simple percussion instruments including drums, metal sounds, wooden sounds, scrapers and shakers.
